4.     Mars is also known as the home of Olympus Mons which is a highest discovered mountain in the Solar system. A person standing on the surface of Mars in any location from where the mountain is visible, they don’t have a chance for viewing the top of that mountain. With the peak at 88,600 feet, Olympus Mons is about 3 times high as Earth’s highest mountain peak, Mount Everest.

8.     Approximately the planet Mars is located 138,000,000 miles away from the Sun. When the planet Earth and Mars both are on the same side to the Sun, the two planets may possibly come 35,000,000 miles of each other. But if both planets are on the opposite side to the Sun, they may be as far as 399,000,000 miles apart.

9.     The planet Mars has a very thin atmosphere, 3% nitrogen, 95% of carbon and 1.6% of argon, and the remainder consists of traces of oxygen and water.

10. Mars has two moons, Deimos and Phobos. Both are small and unevenly shaped and may be former asteroids. Fascinatingly, Phobos orbits Mars at only about 5,500 miles away from its center, the nearest any moon orbits its parent planet. In fact, if a person were to stand on Phobos and faces to Mars, Mars would look approximately 6,400 times bigger than the full moon appears from Earth – taking up almost a quarter of the celestial hemisphere. Because Phobos has a mainly low orbit, scientists believe that it would eventually crash into Mars, or break up into pieces, probably forming rings around the planet.
